All Kent County hospitals enact visitor restrictions – Fox17

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — 3 major health systems in metro Grand Rapids are limiting visitors, as Michigan continues to deal with a large number of respiratory illness cases.

Spectrum Health, Metro Health – University of Michigan Health, and Mercy Health are all asking people who are sick to not visit patients in any of their hospitals or outpatient facilities. These restrictions will be in place until further notice.

A joint release published by the Kent County Health Department says limiting exposure is “one of the most important tools in fighting the transmission of infection.”

Officials say people should stay home if they have the following symptoms:

  • Fever greater than 100.4 degrees
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Congestion
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Draining sores

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Michigan is seeing more cases of illnesses like the common cold, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus or RSV.

If you are sick, the health department encourages you to see your primary care physician, vist an urgent care, or use a tele-medicine service.
