Flavoured e-cigarettes should be banned, Dame Sally Davies says – Telegraph.co.uk

The country’s departing chief medical officer has said she would favour a ban on flavoured e-cigarettes, in line with actions planned in the United States.

Prof Dame Sally Davies, who has just stood down, spoke out amid growing concern about the promotion of candy-like flavours which could attract children to vaping.

Public Health England has championed the role of e-cigarettes, which it claims are 95 per cent safer than smoking.

But Dame Sally – who has been the country’s most senior doctor for almost a decade – said she was concerned that the long-term health consequences of the devices remain unknown. 

And she said she would support a ban on flavoured varieties, in a bid to prevent the take-up…
