Flu-related death in Colorado confirmed – KKTV 11 News

CANON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) – A spokesperson for a Canon City hospital confirmed one person died from a flu-related illness in early 2020.

Sarah Silvernail for Centura Health could only share few details, stating that the person who died was a senior and that person died on Jan. 3.

The death comes on the heels of a release from the hospital where the person was at, St. Thomas More. On Dec. 26, the hospital was reporting it had seen a total of 28 cases with 4 admissions from Oct. 1 to Dec. 15.

According to the latest numbers for this flu season from the CDC, there have been 55,000 hospitalizations nationwide with about 2,900 deaths. You can read more on the Influenza Surveillance Report by clicking here. You can also read more about vaccinations there.

It isn’t clear if the person who died was vaccinated.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment only tracks pediatric flue deaths and could not provide any additional details.
