STDs are at all-time high, people run to web for at-home test kits – Valley News Live

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) — Sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise across the United States.
The CDC says cases like gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia are at an all-time high. Now people are running to the web for help.

It may not be everyone’s favorite conversation, but it’s an important one.

“A lot of it is people don’t want to come in and express things that have happened or their concern on why they’re getting tested,” said Colin Delisi from Fargo.

Delisi says people aren’t going to the doctor to get STD tested. Companies are making it easy you’re able to mail a test kit to your home.

“I actually think it’s a pretty great idea cause most of the stigma around getting an STD is where people really fail to I would say get tested is just because they have that awkward feeling,” said Delisi.

People say taking the test at home has more privacy and makes them feel more comfortable.

“The same deal with any contraceptive, you kind of at that age don’t want to tell your parents what’s going on, so just to be able to do it by yourself,” said brother Mark Delisi from Fargo.

Some are still hesitant about the tests because of the cost, and they don’t know if it works.

“I’m not sure,” said Lisa from Fargo.

At the end of the day, it’s better to be safe now than sorry later.

Depending on the website, home testing kits range anywhere from about $30 to $300.
